This weeks’ knot in our !3 Weeks 13 Knots series is the Bowline.
Called the world’s most useful knot, the Bowline boasts of high strength while still being easy to untie. It was the knot of choice among the sailors aboard the full-rigged sailing ships of old.
We are learning a new knot each week for the next thirteen weeks. That should be a baker’s dozen knots learned and with practice never forgotten.

So glad to reveal this secret. She has ridden many many miles having outgrown her current bike. She’s the one child who works for her alone time with me, her father. I don’t know who was more excited, Talon or Daddy?
Thanks to everyone at Elite Cycling and especially Marcelo and Debbie. Today was a special.
This is my Father’s Day gift. A set of silverware. An odd gift for Dad you might say but you see we have a strange metric to measure our success as a married man and woman with five children. In other words, a God made, natural family.
When Yané and I decided to marry we chose this set to place on our registry. My sister Donna and her husband Joseph delivered the goods. We have enjoyed countless meals with our original set.
Over the years, as we’ve added to our quiver and they learned to clean up after meals, many pieces were accidentally thrown into the trash and delivered to Mt. Trashmore. It’s become one of those inside jokes you share with your spouse alone.
We measure our marriage’s success by how many lost pieces of our original set of silverware have been lost as we build up the next generation.
Man and woman marry. Children follow. Husband and wife, Mommy and Daddy, sons and daughters with a sprinkle of twins. We are intact, not broken just as the Lord intends. Tonight we all eat with the same silverware once again.

Liverpool beat Watford 3-0 at Watford on November 24th, 2018.
Liverpool walked away from Watford with yet another win and a few extra goals. The first half was somewhat uneventful. The Reds had some chances and Alisson made a brilliant save, but the match was still scoreless as the first half came to a close.
This all changed later in the second half when Salah put the ball in the back of the net after a flurry of shots from other Liverpool players. The Watford goalkeeper, Foster, put up a valiant struggle, but the Egyptian King scored anyways, putting Liverpool 1-0 above Watford.
One goal usually isn’t enough for Liverpool. After Firmino went down just a few yards from the penalty box, Alexander-Arnold took the resulting free kick, and scored the second goal. The ball seemed like it was going to sail above the net, but it instead dipped down right into the net. This was the goal that broke Watford, and was just what Liverpool needed.
Even though the Reds were up by two goals, they still had troubles. Watford tried to come out and score, but their attempts were not successful. One particular Watford player, Success, was causing a lot of problems for Jordan Henderson. Henderson already had a yellow card from a foul against Success, and when the English international committed yet another foul, the referee showed him another yellow card. This resulted in a red card, and Henderson was sent of the pitch with eight minutes left on the clock. This was most unusual, as Henderson is the captain of the Reds and usually doesn’t let himself get so carried away like that. However, since it was so late in the game, Henderson’s red card did not affect Liverpool.
After Liverpool successfully cleared a Watford set piece, Andrew Robertson ran up the left side of the pitch with the ball, getting past the Watford defense. He then passed the ball to Mane, who took a shot at the net. Foster, the goalkeeper, deflected the shot right to Bobby Firmino, who headed it, giving Liverpool a three goal lead late in the game.
Alisson Becker is a great goalkeeper. However, there is a slight issue with him. After every international break, he makes a mistake or two before he gets completely settled in the match. The Brazilian goalkeeper sometimes makes mistakes that Karius would make! However, despite this little flaw, he gave Liverpool yet another clean sheet, which helped the Reds defeat Watford.

Liverpool defeated Fulham 2-0 at Anfield on November 11th, 2018.
This match was a battle, where the attacking Reds kept battering the resilient Fulham defense. But ultimately, as it should be, Liverpool defeated the newly promoted side with yet another clean sheet under their belt. As we all know, clean sheets are very important for teams who are contending for the Premier League title. They make it easier to walk away with three points and get maximum goal differential. It should also be expected from Liverpool to keep a clean sheet against Fulham.
All in all, clean sheets are vital for winning the title.
Five minutes before the half, Fulham crossed the ball into the box, where they headed it into the net past Alisson. They thought they had scored the opening goal, but the assistant referee declared it offside before the ball even went through the goal line. Liverpool made quick work of the opportunity, and as Fulham were recovering from the referee’s decision, Allison passed the ball to Alexander-Arnold, who then passed it down the wing to Salah, who then beats the goalkeeper with one swift shot. 1-0 Liverpool!
Shortly after the break, Liverpool had a corner kick. Fulham defended the initial corner, but Robertson got hold of the ball from a pass by Van Dijk. Robertson then crosses the ball perfectly to Shaqiri, who was running towards the net. One perfect touch from the Swiss international puts Liverpool 2 goals up against Fulham, who seemed to have the life taken out of them.
After Shaqiri’s magnificent goal, Liverpool seemed to take the rest of the match easy. It was like a training session, with a few opportunities here and there. Liverpool walked away with a much-needed shut-out against Fulham, after the midweek Champions League defeat against Serbian side Red Star. All in all, this match was mostly quiet, a regular ho-hum game against a relatively weak side.
Another clean sheet. Another Mo Salah goal. It was business as usual as the Reds dispatched Fulham on a fine autumn day at Anfield.
The first half saw Liverpool create multiple chances while they enjoyed the majority of possession. Fulham seemed determined to keep it close against a potent Liverpool side. Their efforts were nearly rewarded when it appeared that Fulham’s Mitrovic had netted his side a goal. The play was ruled offside. During the ensuing debate between the Fulham players and the referee the Liverpool keeper, Alisson, played the ball up to Alenander-Arnold who spotted a breaking Salah on the right wing and delivered a perfect pass. Goal! Liverpool 1-0
After the break, Shaquiri scored at the Kop end from a beautifully placed cross for Robertson. Liverpool 2-0. This removed any fight the Fulham players may have still possessed. The remaining thirty plus minutes played out like a training session.
Liverpool finished the day with another clean sheet. Since the signing of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson the Reds’ have become a formidable force defensively. We expect nothing less than a solid performance from our back five against a struggling side like Fulham.
It was a very business-like performance from the Liverpool side looking to stake its claim to the top of the table. It is hard to find fault in a comfortable win, but Winaldum seemed a bit out of sorts in the midfield today. Bobby Firmino played in a more traditional ten role than his usual false nine and seemed absent from much of the game. Klopp continues to tinker with his lineups and tactical formations a luxury not afforded in seasons past. All in all, it was a good day for Liverpool.
The Reds head into the international break in a tight points race for the top spot before returning to action later this month away to Watford.
