Liverpool defeated Fulham 2-0 at Anfield on November 11th, 2018.
This match was a battle, where the attacking Reds kept battering the resilient Fulham defense. But ultimately, as it should be, Liverpool defeated the newly promoted side with yet another clean sheet under their belt. As we all know, clean sheets are very important for teams who are contending for the Premier League title. They make it easier to walk away with three points and get maximum goal differential. It should also be expected from Liverpool to keep a clean sheet against Fulham.
All in all, clean sheets are vital for winning the title.
Five minutes before the half, Fulham crossed the ball into the box, where they headed it into the net past Alisson. They thought they had scored the opening goal, but the assistant referee declared it offside before the ball even went through the goal line. Liverpool made quick work of the opportunity, and as Fulham were recovering from the referee’s decision, Allison passed the ball to Alexander-Arnold, who then passed it down the wing to Salah, who then beats the goalkeeper with one swift shot. 1-0 Liverpool!
Shortly after the break, Liverpool had a corner kick. Fulham defended the initial corner, but Robertson got hold of the ball from a pass by Van Dijk. Robertson then crosses the ball perfectly to Shaqiri, who was running towards the net. One perfect touch from the Swiss international puts Liverpool 2 goals up against Fulham, who seemed to have the life taken out of them.
After Shaqiri’s magnificent goal, Liverpool seemed to take the rest of the match easy. It was like a training session, with a few opportunities here and there. Liverpool walked away with a much-needed shut-out against Fulham, after the midweek Champions League defeat against Serbian side Red Star. All in all, this match was mostly quiet, a regular ho-hum game against a relatively weak side.
